Biography
On graduating from the Warsaw School of Economics (SGPiS-SGH) first worked as a tour-guide and then for the Japanese Government to help establish commercial presence of Japanese companies in Poland. Following work in governmental agencies responsible for tourism in Poland (chief expert) and as secretary of the International Tourism Relations Commission of the countries – members of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA), between 1984 and 2008 was international civil servant in the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), initially as analyst in the Studies Section and ultimately director of the Tourism Market Department. Drafted major UNWTO tourism policy documents and organized UNWTO conferences and courses in all world regions in the fields of travel formalities, quality, trade, ethics, accessibility, health, and safety and security. During his tenure represented UNWTO before the World Trade Organization, UNCTAD, WHO and Interpol.
From 2000 to 2008 lecturer at the French Université de la Méditerranée Aix-Marseille – CEDERS. From 2008 to 2017 was visiting professor at the Polish Katowice School of Economics, from 2012 to 2014 at Andrzej Modrzewski Cracow Academy, and from 2017 to 2018 at Vistula University in Warsaw. From 2004 tom 2018 worked as international coordinator of annual international conferences on industrial heritage and tourism held annually in Zabrze, Poland.
